What if disease were a doorway, instead of a defect?

Think about this for a moment: modern medicine has made the most staggering advances.

We’ve mapped the entire human genome.

We’ve synthesised hormones.

We’ve implanted embryos, and we’ve transplanted hearts, lungs, livers, kidneys and pancreases.

Yet we’re getting sicker, more tired and more depressed by the day. And we’re getting sicker at a younger and younger age. And it’s not just one disease that’s on the rise, it’s all non-infectious diseases: allergies, autism, autoimmune diseases, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, depression, anxiety, food intolerances … the list goes on. It doesn’t make sense, that in this age of technological marvels, we aren’t making a dent in defying disease.

Modern medicine is obviously missing something. That’s why I’ve started my podcast: Healing with Dr Helena.

Recall from last week’s Health-e-Byte that I’ve structured the podcast in the following way.

Each episode begins with a Brain Booster (BB). And your first BB is: start with a reason, not a routine. In other words, what’s a compelling reason for you to become proactive about your brain health? And what do I mean by brain health?

This is followed by a Health Headline: What if disease were a doorway, instead of a defect? Because that’s how we tend to view disease: as something to be despondent about. But what if instead, we decided to view disease as a doorway? What would happen?

I think we’d completely change — in fact we’d revolutionise for the better — the way we practise medicine and approach health care. Because we’d then have to ask the question: a doorway to what?

The next part of the podcast answers the question: What’s missing from modern medicine? And the first thing that’s missing is the recognition that just because something doesn’t come in a pill, doesn’t mean it isn’t powerful.

Sleep, stress management, food, exercise, music, art, family and friends, are all powerful medicines. In fact, they’re more powerful than popping pills, but they take more time, effort and energy. And our medical system isn’t set up to approach health and healing from such a broad, holistic perspective. So it’s up to you to choose your path: the path of popping pills, or the path to personal power.

And the first Whether Report answers the question: Whether Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are the same thing?

Click here to watch the episode on my YouTube channel from Monday 20th April, or you can listen on your preferred podcast platform. I’ll publish a new episode every Monday, and you’ll receive an email notification on the preceding Wednesday. Please subscribe to my podcast or YouTube channel so that you don’t miss an episode, and send your whether questions to: podcast@drhelenapopovic.com

If you’re happy for me to play your voice on my podcast, you can provide an audio file. Otherwise, you can type your question for me to read out.

I very much look forward to answering your questions and exploring how we can all build a smarter brain, stronger body and deeply fulfilling life.

Please share this Health-e-Byte with anyone who is a podcast listener!
