How is education more powerful than medication?

These are a few of the questions I was asked by radio host Sofie Formica on 4BC Brisbane during Dementia Action Week 15th to 21st September 2025. You can listen to our conversation here.

Photo: This flower belongs to the cannonball tree. I took the photo while trekking the Pekoe Trail in Sri Lanka. I found the flower both beautiful and fascinating. Some Amazonian communities use the leaves, flowers, bark or fruits of the tree for a variety of medicinal purposes such as treating high blood pressure, tumours, colds, stomach aches, toothaches and skin conditions. Sri Lankan people use the pulp of the cannonball tree as feed for domestic pigs and chickens. What does this have to do with today’s Health-e-Byte? Discovering Sri Lanka’s extraordinary flowers gave me a deep sense of awe, as well as boosting my brain through the unusual things I was learning. It was wonderful to be educated in matters that were far removed from my day-to-day life.

Please share this Health-e-Byte with anyone who is interested in boosting their brain.
