Soon after returning from Sri Lanka, I was interviewed on Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise about the impact of physical exercise on our brain. The key message is that exercise isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have if we want to preserve our brain function as we age. You can watch our conversation here.
This photo was taken in Sri Lanka at the Ritigala Nature Reserve where we hiked to the ruins of an ancient monastery dating back to the 1st century BCE. Hiking is a great form of exercise because it combines nature, navigation, exhilaration, and on a sunny day, vitamin D. Find a form of exercise you enjoy because the more you enjoy it, the greater the benefits. We also gain more from exercise if we do it with other people because we’re adding social stimulation.
