Our body has the intrinsic capacity to heal … if we let it. The same goes for allowing our body to come to rest at a healthy weight. When we don’t heal and when we aren’t happy with our body, it’s a signal to pause, reflect and examine the bigger picture of our lives. Bernice Johnson Reagon states it beautifully: ‘Our challenges are not supposed to paralyse us; they’re supposed to help us discover who we really are.’
This is in contrast to the philosophy of modern medicine. Western medicine is concerned with damage control and amelioration of symptoms. This has its place. But why not live in a way that promotes health, vitality and happiness so that we minimise the need for disempowering and costly interventions?
One of the greatest discoveries this century is that we are not passive victims of our genes. We influence the expression of our genes through our thoughts, emotions, lifestyles and choices.
This is fabulous news because it means we have the power to influence our own health, longevity and overall quality of life. We have the power to choose health – every day of our lives. Great health isn’t a destination – it’s a daily choice. It doesn’t matter what’s happened in your life to date – what matters is where you want to go and who you want to be.
